New Delhi, April 6 -- The Congress urged the Centre on Saturday to ensure that the proposed bilateral trade agreement between New Delhi and Washington DC is "honourable, balanced and reflective of India's core interests", particularly concerning the agriculture, livestock and textile sectors.

Addressing a press conference at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in Delhi, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma emphasised the need for a measured and strategic response to the recent tariff hike imposed by the US, and asked the government to take various political parties and stakeholders into confidence saying national interests should be kept foremost while formulating its strategy.
