India, May 27 -- The Congress on Monday appointed its MP from Jorhat and the party's deputy leader in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, as the new president of its Assam unit replacing Bhupen Kumar Borah. The appointment of the three-time MP comes ahead of next year's assembly polls in the state and a series of electoral losses the party has been suffering since Congress lost power to the BJP in 2016.
