India, Dec. 19 -- Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis accepted the resignation of cabinet minister Manikrao Kokate on Thursday, days after a sessions court upheld his two-year imprisonment in a forgery case. Kokate, who is currently admitted to a hospital in Mumbai's Bandra, had already been divested of his portfolios-sports, youth welfare, and minorities development-on Wednesday. The resignation followed Fadnavis's insistence on immediate action, despite deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar's suggestion to wait for a Bombay high court hearing on Friday in the case. Pawar, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, eventually directed Kokate to render his resignation. htc
