Bhopal, Sept. 8 -- Sometime in May this year, rape convict Sohan Yadav, 45, lodged in a Madhya Pradesh jail, wanted to know about the remaining period of his life sentence (14 years) and the status of his appeal against conviction in the high court. To his dismay, he was told by a computer operator at Khurai jail that his life sentence was reduced to half in October 2017 itself. Shocked and happy, he sought his release. But, jail authorities told him that could not happen unless an order was issued by the local Khurai court and advised him to seek legal help.
