India, Dec. 19 -- Sculptor Ram Sutar, best known for designing the Statue of Unity, died at his residence in Noida's Sector 19 late on Wednesday. He was 100. His last rites were performed at the Sector 94 cremation ground on Thursday, attended by dignitaries including Union minister Ramdas Athawale and MP Mahesh Sharma. Sutar, who began his career in 1947, was among India's most prolific sculptors. Beyond the world's tallest statue in Gujarat, he was acclaimed for his iconic depictions of Mahatma Gandhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He ran the Fine Arts Studio in Noida with his son, Anil Sutar. P13
