New Delhi, July 24 -- The Centre on Wednesday constituted the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), headed by the cabinet secretary, for dealing with any major disaster situation having national ramifications, a notification issued by the Union home ministry said. The NCMC, the notification said, has been formed exercising the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 8A of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 (53 of 2005). The cabinet secretary, TV Somanathan, is the chairperson of the committee while home secretary, defence secretary, secretary (coordination), cabinet secretariat and member and head of department, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), are the members of the committee.
