Toronto, April 1 -- A Canadian minister has said that if the ruling Liberal Party will form the next government, it will make sure to have "strong ties" with India, reiterating Prime Minister Mark Carney's calls to rebuild strained bilateral relations.

Speaking at an event in Oakville town of Ontario on Sunday, Indo-Canadian cabinet minister Anita Anand said, "We will make sure we have strong ties with nations whose people have immigrated here and settled here including my mother's and father's homeland of India."

Anand, who is considered among Carney's confidants, is the Canadian minister of innovation, science and industry. She is seeking re-election in the upcoming federal poll, which will be held on April 28.
