India, May 1 -- While the ruling Liberal Party fell tantalisingly short of the majority mark in the elections on Monday, there does not appear to be any imminent threat to its stability in the near term as smaller opposition parties have signalled they will cooperate with the Government of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The Liberals have 169 seats, three short of the majority mark of 172. According to Canadian media reports, Carney is expected to announce the formation of the Cabinet by the middle of May, and the new House of Commons could have its first session soon after.
