Guwahati, Oct. 25 -- The Assam cabinet on Thursday approved the exemption of Scheduled Tribes (STs), tea tribes and the Moran and Muttock communities from the state's two-child policy for government jobs and local body elections, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. "Today's cabinet decided to keep STs, tea-tribes and the Moran and Muttock communities outside the purview of the provision of the two-child norm," Sarma said after the cabinet meeting. "If we are strict in enforcing them for these communities, a time could come when these micro-communities like Morans who have around 100,000 population would get reduced further and become minuscule and lose their identity."
