New Delhi, April 5 -- The Union cabinet on Friday approved a Rs.18,658 crore outlay for four railway projects covering 15 districts in Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

According to a government statement, the completion of the projects will expand the Indian Railways' network by 1,247km, enhancing connectivity to two aspirational districts and 3,350 villages.

"The enhanced line capacity will improve mobility, providing enhanced efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. These multi-tracking proposals will ease operations and reduce congestion, providing the much-required infrastructural development on the busiest sections across Indian Railways," the official statement added.
