New Delhi, June 2 -- Four days ago, the village of Blatten in Switzerland was tragically destroyed after a glacier collapsed and covered it. In India, the terrifying images of nature's fury were very disturbing but not new. We have watched the horrors of glacial lake outbursts in Kedarnath; washing away of hill towns; rise in lightnings; urban roads melting in intense heat; and the recent heavy rains in Meghalaya. India faces one such climate event every day. The tragedy in Blatten is a grim reminder to the world that loss and damage is not a slogan by the Global South, but our collective reality.
