India, June 5 -- The Karnataka High Court on Thursday took suo motu cognisance of the stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB IPL victory celebrations that killed 11 people on Wednesday.

The court will hear the matter at 2:30 PM on Thursday, ANI reported.

The stampede happened on Wednesday when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad landed in the city, and a victory parade to celebrate the franchise's first Indian Premier League (IPL) victory, for the first time in history. While the Bengaluru police had denied permission for the parade, the team announced it for Wednesday evening, resulting in a huge crowd gathering on the route from the Vidhan Soudha to the stadium.
