India, July 21 -- A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) has reignited debate around Bengaluru's soaring rental costs after a screenshot of a property ad showed an independent house demanding an eye-watering Rs.23 lakh as security deposit, equivalent to 12 months' rent.

The advertisement, shared widely online, is for a 4BHK fully furnished house spanning 4,500 sq ft, with a monthly rent of Rs.2.3 lakh. But what drew the most attention was the staggering deposit figure, which many said reflects the "unregulated greed" of landlords in the city.
