India, Nov. 4 -- The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls kickstarted in West Bengal on Tuesday, days after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced extending the exercise to 12 states and Union territories as part of the second phase.
After conducting the exercise in poll-bound Bihar, chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on October 27 had announced that the Election Commission will conduct Phase 2 of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union territories.
The 12 states and UTs covered in Phase 2 of SIR are: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
