New Delhi, March 21 -- US president Donald Trump has said he believes India will likely reduce import duties on American imports but added that the country could face substantial spike in tariffs from April 2 unless it does so.

In an interview with Breitbart News, Trump described India as "one of the highest tariffing nations in the world" despite his "very good relationship" with the country.

"I believe they're probably going to be lowering those tariffs substantially, but on April 2, we will be charging them the same tariffs they charge us," Trump said in the interview conducted in his private dining room adjacent to the Oval Office.
