India, Feb. 13 -- The Bangladesh election has turned out to be a historic win for Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), with Tarique Rahman set to return as the new face of Bangladesh.
Tarique Rahman's BNP, which was barred from participating in 2024 elections, got two-thirds majority, bagging 209 out of 297 seats.
Bangladesh's Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami, which was eyeing a comeback in the polls, secured 69 seats. Sheikh Hasina's party, the Awami League, was barred from contesting the elections.
With the latest win, BNP has ended the 15-year rule of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government, which collapsed in August 2024, and gave the country its first male prime minister after two decades.
