Mumbai, March 6 -- Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Azmi was on Wednesday suspended from the Maharashtra assembly till the remainder of the ongoing budget session over his remarks praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
A motion to suspend the four-time MLA was moved by parliamentary affairs minister Chandrakant Patil and was passed by the assembly by a voice vote. "Azmi's comments praising do not suit the stature of a member of the assembly and is an insult of the democratic institution of the legislative assembly," Patil said.
Reacting to his suspension, which ends on March 26, Azmi said the action came despite him having retracted his remarks. P8
