Asian team TT: India women lose in last 8 to Singapore
Mumbai, Oct. 14 -- Unheralded Tan Zhao Yun, a 20-year-old ranked 166 in the world, proved to be the difference as the Indian women's team lost 3-2 to Singapore in the quarter-finals of the Asian Table Tennis Team Championships in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The hosts lost the first two rubbers before fighting back to level the contest 2-2. Tan, who had stunned Manika Batra in the opening match, though kept her calm to brush aside Diya Chitale 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-4).
The hosts will be without a podium finish at this continental event - albeit featuring only team events this time - held in India after 16 years.
