New Delhi, Jan. 31 -- Several eminent personalities, including writers, activists, and artists, have signed an open letter demanding the release of Umar Khalid and other activists, marking 1,600 days of Khalid's imprisonment in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
The letter highlights Khalid's speech before his arrest and condemns the prolonged incarceration of activists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) without bail or trial.
"In a speech preceding his arrest Umar Khalid had asserted that the same forces that had killed Gandhi had also brought in the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), which he and many others had protested against." the letter stated.
