Kolkata/Ranchi, March 16 -- Nearly 50 people were arrested in Jharkhand and West Bengal after clashes rocked Holi celebrations in some parts of the two states.

Local police arrested 22 people in Giridih district of Jharkhand and 21 in Birbhum district of West Bengal following instances of communal violence on Friday, officials aware of the matter in the respective regions said on Saturday.

In West Bengal, clashes erupted between members of Hindu and Muslim communities in the Sainthia town on Friday.

The tensions prompted the local administration to suspend internet connections in some parts of Birbhum district till Monday and impose prohibitory orders.
