Army band to play national song in 18 places
New Delhi, Jan. 8 -- The Indian Army will mark the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram, which was at the centre of a political row in Parliament recently, by organising military band performances in 18 locations across the country, officials aware of the matter said on Wednesday.
The places where military bands will perform include Naihati in West Bengal where Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay was born, said one of the officials cited above, asking not to be named. Chattopadhyay composed the national song in the 1870s. The military bands will perform at different locations during January 19-26.
