New Delhi, March 10 -- A Great Indian Bustard (GIB) chick hatched this month through captive breeding and artificial hatching by Project GIB team, Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav shared on Sunday.
"Happy to share the news of the first captive-bred GIB chick of 2025! The egg was laid on February 12 by 4-year-old female (Rewa) after mating with a breeding male (Leo) on February 7 at the Sam centre in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer. It was artificially hatched by the Project GIB team. India, as I often mention, is not just conserving but also restoring its ecosystem. Congratulations to all those who worked tirelessly to make it possible," Yadav wrote on X on Sunday.
