India, Jan. 1 -- The war in Ukraine will soon enter its fifth year. Before taking office as US President, Donald Trump had said he would need just 24 hours to end it. Nearly a year and several rounds of diplomatic talks later, the prospect of a lasting peace deal remains uncertain.
Ukraine is steadfastly refusing to yield; Russia is demanding the right to shape Kyiv's future foreign and military policy. Meanwhile, Russia continues to make gains on the battlefield. Despite major roadblocks, diplomatic efforts to end the war have picked up, with Washington pushing Kyiv and Moscow towards a negotiated settlement. As such, 2026 may be the year this conflict ends.
