An artist who carried forward spin legacy
New Delhi, June 24 -- Former India left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi died in London on Monday following a massive heart attack. He was 77.
Doshi played 33 Tests in four years, from 1979 to 1983, stepping up as the famed spin quartet Bishan Singh Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, BS Chandrasekhar and S Venkataraghavan were finishing up.
He took 114 Test wickets, and also had a long stint with Nottinghamshire in the English County. He played four seasons for Notts. He also played 15 One-day Internationals taking 22 wickets.
Considered a talented spinner, the presence of Bedi meant Doshi made his Test debut only at the age of 32. He began in the 1979 home series against Australia. He made his debut in the drawn Chennai game in which he took eight wickets.
