Dantewada, April 6 -- Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the days of bullets and bombs were over in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh as he again urged Maoists to surrender, calling them "our people" and saying that no one rejoices when a rebel is killed.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the state government's Bastar Pandum festival, a cultural event, in the state's Dantewada district, Shah said the door was open for Maoists to join the mainstream and help in the development of the Bastar region, which is considered the hub of Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
