Mumbai, March 30 -- Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar has said the current financial situation of the state does not allow for a crop loan waiver, one of the promises made by the Mahayuti partners before last year's state polls, with CM Devendra Fadnavis backing his statement on Saturday.

"Promises made during elections don't always translate directly into actions...For now... loans taken must be repaid," he said at a Baramati event on Friday.

Supporting his remark, Fadnavis said: "He has not said it (loan waiver) will never be done...The stand taken by Ajit dada is the stand of the government." P2
