GUWAHATI, April 25 -- Assam's opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on Thursday for allegedly making derogatory remarks and defending Pakistan over Pahalgam attack, police said.
Islam, who represents the Dhing constituency in Nagaon, was arrested from his residence, a day after he made the controversial comments during a campaign rally for next month's panchayat polls in the state.
"The comments made by Islam has miffed the people of Assam. Assam police arrested him on charges of anti-national activities," chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
According to police, Islam has been booked under sections 152, 196, 197 (i), 113(i), 352 and 353 of BNS for acts endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country, promoting e...
