Bengaluru, Aug. 12 -- The Karnataka government has reinstated senior IPS officer K Ramachandra Rao to active service, promoting him as director general of police, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE). His return follows nearly five months of compulsory leave imposed in the wake of allegations connected to the gold smuggling case involving his stepdaughter, actress Ranya Rao. The appointment was announced through a government notification on Monday, which also stated that the DGP (DCRE) position holds the same rank as the director general of CID, special units, and economic offences, in line with Rule 12 of the IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016.
