New Delhi, July 19 -- A letter by the South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers and People (SANDRP) has raised concerns over the ongoing abuse and encroachment of the Yamuna floodplain downstream of Wazirabad Barrage. Sent to the chief minister, lieutenant governor, DDA and others, the letter follows a field visit to the eastern bank on Tuesday. "The encroachments and projects span eight to nine years. Despite last year's devastating flood, the government appears more focused on expanding these projects than restoring the floodplain, which is vital to protect the city," said Bhim Singh Rawat, associate coordinator, SANDRP. htc
