New Delhi, July 14 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the south district magistrate (DM) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take remedial and punitive action in response to a plea alleging encroachment of a 2.5-acre village pond in Savitri Nagar (Sheikh Sarai). The plea stated that the pond, measuring 4 bighas, has been built upon and now houses a temple, despite complaints filed with the South DM in September 2023. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) also received the complaint and, on March 11, forwarded it to both the DM and the MCD Commissioner for action.
