India, June 29 -- Around nine workers of Nepali origin have gone missing in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district after a cloudburst damaged an under-construction hotel site in the area. Rescue operations are underway.

Around 28 workers were engaged in road construction work at the site and lived there by putting up tents. It is feared that nine of them have swept away by heavy rain following the cloudburst.

The incident took place at around 2 am last night and a rescue operation is underway to find those missing.

According to news agency PTI, the cloudburst took place near Paligad-Silai Band in Tehsil Barkot. The highway is closed at many places, including Silai bend, since the cloudburst.
