LUCKNOW, Jan. 29 -- A makeshift platform collapsed at a religious event in the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, resulting in a stampede that claimed seven lives.
The cause for the collapse of the platform erected for the event, dedicated to a Jain deity, wasn't immediately known, but the incident brought back memories of last year's stampede at Hathras, also in Uttar Pradesh, where 121 people died.
Senior administration and police authorities confirmed that seven people died and 40 others, including police personnel, were injured in Tuesday's incident. P13
