New Delhi, May 16 -- India's unemployment rate stood at 5.1% in April, the National Statistics Office (NSO) said on Thursday in its first ever monthly data on labour market indicators. These monthly numbers, according to the ministry of statistics and programme implementation's advance release calendar, will come with a lag of about two weeks from the month of reporting, which is almost the same as India's inflation numbers. This makes them a useful input in economic policy making, especially monetary policy , filling an important statistical vacuum. P18
