New Delhi, Feb. 16 -- A 40-year-old man allegedly strangled his mother to death at their house in northeast Delhi's Shiv Vihar on Friday night after she refused to give him money, police said on Saturday, adding that the man has been arrested.

According to police, the accused is Sonu (goes by first name only) and the deceased has been identified as Munni Devi, 65. Sonu's 17-year-old daughter returned home from her tuition on Friday at around 8.30pm, when she saw her grandmother lying on the floor, police said, adding that on confronting her father, he told her that he had demanded money from Devi and she refused, so he strangled her.
