New Delhi, July 25 -- Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has told the Rajya Sabha that 371 posts out of 1,122 for high court judges remain vacant as of July 21, with recommendations for 196 of these positions yet to be received from high court collegiums. The minister, in a written response tabled on Thursday to queries raised by CPI(M) lawmaker John Brittas, provides an overview of judicial vacancies, appointments in process, and demographic representation among judges and court staff. According to the minister, 175 proposals for appointment of high court judges are at various stages of processing between the government and the Supreme Court Collegium, which features CJI Bhushan R Gavai and justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath.
