India, July 22 -- Around 368,000 trees will be felled for the Parsa East Kente Basan mining project in Chhattisgarh, the union environment ministry has informed the Lok Sabha. Responding to a question by Raja Ram Singh, CPIML MP from Bihar on whether the government is aware that over 200,000 trees have been felled for the PEKB coal mine in Hasdeo forest, Kirti Vardhan Singh, minister of state for environment said permissions were granted twice for expansion of the project. The public hearing for the project was conducted on January 16, 2009, Singh added. htc
