Barmer, April 13 -- Scientists at the Godawan Breeding Centre in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan have successfully facilitated the birth of a second Godawan (Great Indian Bustard) using the artificial insemination technique, officials aware of the matter said on Saturday.
On Friday, a GIB chick was born at the Sudasari Breeding Centre using artificial insemination, marking the second successful birth using this advanced method.
The first breakthrough came in October last year when the Bustard Recovery Program produced the world's first GIB chick through artificial insemination - a historic moment that made India the first country in the world to achieve this feat for the critically endangered species.
