GUWAHATI, Jan. 2 -- Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday claimed that nearly 2,000 illegal Bangladeshis have been sent back across the international border in the past few months under provisions of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act (IEAA). Talking to media persons, the chief minister informed about the revision in state's policy to check illegal immigration. He said, from now onwards, once an individual is declared as "illegal" by a foreigners' tribunal, the state machinery will push them back across the border within a week.
