New Delhi, Feb. 20 -- The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that it has identified 28 illegal jeans dyeing units in the industrial areas of Narela, Bawana, Mayapuri and Lawrence road, and has imposed closure notices and an environmental damage compensation (EDC) penalty on them.

DPCC said it has carried out inspections of 61 units since April last year as part of an ongoing NGT plea which sought action against such units in non-conforming areas. Out of these 61 units, 18 were found to be functioning legally, six had their premises shut, one address was untraceable, and 28 were found to be not complying with the norms - including not having a valid consent to operate (CTO).
