New Delhi, June 19 -- An outbreak of diarrhoeal diseases has been announced in Odisha, after 24 people died and over 2,500 people were admitted in hospitals across seven districts of the state in the past 10 days with the primary symptom of diarrhoea, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. About 10% of the tested samples returned positive for cholera - a severe bacterial infection of the intestines caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae usually a result of consuming contaminated food or water.
