Silchar, Nov. 28 -- Two schoolchildren were killed in a hit-and-run incident on Thursday afternoon in Assam's Cachar district after an oil tanker allegedly rammed the scooter the children were travelling on, police said. The incident took place in the Lalpani area under Jirighat Police Station along the Silchar-Imphal National Highway. Both children died on the spot, police said. The deceased were identified as Santamba Chaudhary (12) and Samad Uddin Choudhary (7), both enrolled at Sunrise English School, Lalpani. According to onlookers, the children were returning home from school when Santamba's mother, Sultana Begum (32), who was riding the scooter, was struck from behind by a speeding tanker.
