RAIPUR, June 12 -- Two Maoists were gunned down by security forces during a fierce encounter in the Pusgunna area of Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Wednesday, police officers aware of the matter said. The encounter comes a day after ASP Akash Rao Girepunje was killed after an IED, planted by Maoists, exploded in the Konta area of the same district, they added. A joint team of Kukanar police and DRG launched a search operation on Tuesday, based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of CPI (Maoist) cadres in the Pusgunna forests, said a Bastar police statement.
