16 BLOs dead in three weeks: Oppn raises alarms over SIR
New Delhi/Kolkata, Nov. 24 -- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday, alleged the implementation of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) process has become chaotic, opaque, and even deadly for field officials.
"Under the guise of SIR, chaos has been unleashed across the country," Gandhi posted on X, as he claimed that 16 booth-level officers (BLOs) have died in the last three weeks due to stress, heart attacks, and suicides linked to excessive workloads, sharing a related media reports.
Calling the exercise an "imposed tyranny," he argued that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has created a burdensome system where citizens flip through "thousands of scanned pages of a 22-year-old voter list" just to find their names.
