New Delhi, June 25 -- The Centre will invite 100 rehabilitated bonded labourers, primarily rescued women and children, to attend the Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort as Special Guests, people aware of the matter said on Tuesday. The development took place following a directive from the defence ministry to the ministry of labour and employment, they added. In its letter, which has been seen by HT, to the labour ministry in May, the defence ministry said that it "has been decided to invite 100 Rehabilitated bonded labourers (rescued and rehabilitated women, children), along with their spouse, as Special Guests of the Government to witness Independence Day Ceremony, 2025 at the Red Fort."
