India, Oct. 14 -- A fifth person was arrested on Monday in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 23-year-old medical student in a forested area near her college campus in Durgapur, West Bengal, late on October 10, police said. The suspect, Sheikh Safiqul, was produced before the Durgapur court along with Sheikh Nasiruddin, who was arrested late on Sunday. A police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the arrests were "made on the basis of phone call records and circumstantial evidence" and that the victim had not named any of the accused in her complaint. This came even as the TMC and BJP traded barbs over the incident. P11
