New Delhi, April 18 -- The Delhi high court on Thursday discharged a man in an adultery case, invoking the Mahabharata to underscore the consequences of treating women as property. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna cited the instance in which Yudhishthira gambled away Draupadi, triggering the epic war, to highlight the enduring misogyny in society.

The adultery case from a 2010 complaint by a husband alleging that his wife was in an adulterous relationship with the accused. The husband had alleged that she frequented the park after dinner under the guise of exercise, and claimed that she also stayed with the man in a Lucknow hotel while pretending to be husband and wife, and had sexual relations without his consent.
