India, April 22 -- Pope Francis passed away on Monday at the age of 88, after serving as the Head of the Catholic Church for 12 years. Earlier this month, he spent several weeks hospitalized in Rome, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.

According to the Vatican, the official cause of death was a stroke, followed by a coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.
