PANAJI, July 4 -- Threats to the independence of the judiciary persist irrespective of which party is in power, retired justice of the Supreme Court Abhay Oka said on Thursday and cited the recent delays in approving names recommended by the Supreme Court collegium as "just one example" of how the independence of judiciary is being eroded.
Speaking at the first edition of the Justice HR Khanna memorial lecture instituted by the Goa governor, Justice Oka called on members of the judicial fraternity and members of the bar "to be always alert and ensure that the independence of the judiciary is not affected."
