India, April 25 -- The Supreme Court on Friday criticised Rahul Gandhi, leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for his remarks against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, asking him to refrain from making "irresponsible" statements about freedom fighters. However, the court granted a stay on the summons issued to Gandhi by a Lucknow court, which had called him over his comment referring to Savarkar as a "servant" of the British.
Pulling up the Congress leader over his comments made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in November 2022, a bench of justices Dipankar Datta and Manmohan said, "Let him not make any statements on freedom fighters without knowing any history or geography about it."
