'embassy helping indians on death row in indonesia'
New Delhi, May 7 -- The Centre on Tuesday informed the Delhi high court that the Indian embassy in Indonesia was providing legal assistance to three Indians on death row in a drug-related case, and added that the Indian consulate has filed an "intent of appeal" to challenge the death sentence awarded by the Indonesian district court.
In a statement made before a bench of justice Sachin Datta, the Union ministry of external affairs on Tuesday said that the vice consul of Indian consulate in Indonesia has filed a suo motu "intent to appeal" on May 2 after the high court had asked Centre to pursue the matter with their counterparts in Indonesia to ensure legal assistance is provided to the three Indian nationals.
